Welcome to the CARING NETWORK respite care registry, the only online and searchable Respite Registry in the Baltimore/Washington Area.
WHAT IS RESPITE CARE?
Respite care is temporary relief or "intermittent Breaks" for caregivers and families who are caring for those with disabilities, chronic or terminal illnesses, or the elderly.
The CARING NETWORK respite care registry provides families and caregivers with relief from the ongoing demands of providing care for their loved one with special needs. This break allows them the opportunity to rejuvenate themselves and provide the quality of care all of our loved ones deserve. Respite care is a critical way communities can provide relief for those caring for others, and to assist them in keeping the family unit intact.
WHY IS RESPITE CARE SO IMPORTANT?
The value of respite cannot be overstated. It reduces stress in families, prevents costly out-of-home placements, and prevents child/elder abuse and neglect. Respite care also serves to enhance the families' coping abilities, increases caregiver physical and mental well-being, and provides the caregiver with an opportunity for social activities and community involvement. The CARING NETWORK respite care registry addresses the needs of families who just cannot find anyone in their community willing to "give them a break".
WHO IS LISTED IN THE CARING NETWORK AND WHAT TYPE OF TRAINING / QUALIFICATIONS DO THEY HAVE?
Respite care providers (at least 16 years old) are available in the CARING NETWORK to assist families. They will have all types and levels of training and/or experience. Some will have degrees in geriatrics, special education, and nursing or be Certified Nursing Assistants. Others will have attended the Caring Communities
Caring Teens or
Respite Cares! training programs. Some have experience and training with disabilities such as autism or cerebral palsy, or be a sibling of an individual who has a disability. There will also be people in the CARING NETWORK who just want to help and have little or no experience. CARING NETWORK providers may have additional training like sign language, geriatrics, CPR and current background checks, and some will not. It is important for the those using the list to establish what level of training is required, or they are comfortable with, to care for their loved one.
PLEASE NOTE: AGENCIES THAT PROVIDE RESPITE CARE SERVICES MAY SIGN UP IN THE CARING NETWORK, TOO!
PAYING FOR THE PROVIDER:
Families may receive funding for respite care services or some will "pay out of pocket". Providers may decide to volunteer their services or request an hourly fee. Fees or other charges will be entirely negotiated between the family and the provider. Caring Communities is not an employment agency and is NOT a party to any negotiation or agreement between respite care providers and the families they serve.
RESPONSIBILITY OF FAMILY:
Caring Communities encourages families to properly screen, interview and/or train the provider/s and choose the respite care provider carefully. Caring Communities recommends that 3 references be obtained.
Families may also request a background check be performed (with provider permission) on any provider in our registry for the same fee.
PLEASE NOTE: All CARING NETWORK respite registry providers are self-registered and not screened or approved by Caring Communities. Caring Communities cannot guarantee that all information is accurate, and consumers should confirm respite providers information prior to depending upon it. Caring Communities does not endorse or recommend providers. Caring Communities does not warrant nor guarantee the quality of care that will be provided by registrants and believes that consumers are in the best position to evaluate and choose who is appropriate for their needs.
